One grumpy billionaire.

One sassy-sweet supermodel.

Add in a tropical private island paradise.

What could go wrong?

As owner and CEO of Dirty Dare Spirits, thirty-three year old, Asher Dare has it all. Money. Power. Women whenever he wants. A private island retreat when he doesn’t. People he trusts? He can count those on one hand. When one of his best friends asks a favor—hide his twenty-one year old, supermodel sister, on the island until a scandal blows over—Asher can’t say no. But he doesn’t have to like it.

The daughter of a Senator and a Presidential candidate, Nicolette Bettencourt always acts with decorum. Yet through no fault of her own, scandal seems to follow her every move. When nude photos surface, the uproar puts her father’s campaign at risk. And forces her into hiding with Asher, the hottest—and grumpiest—billionaire she’s ever met.

Under soothing tropical breezes, Asher discovers that Nicolette is nothing like the spoiled brat portrayed in the tabloids. She’s warm, sexy, and a temptation Asher must resist at all costs—or he risks betraying his closest friend, bringing a powerful political dynasty to its knees… and losing the woman he loves.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: taboo: brother’s best friend, forced proximity
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

Cute read! Asher Dare agrees to babysit his best friend's younger sister, Nikki, on his private island when she needs to lay low because of some nude photos that leaked. Asher, the oldest Dare sibling and owner of Dirty Dare Spirits, is a super serious, kind of grumpy, workaholic who doesn't trust easily, but is surprised by Nikki's super sweet disposition despite the rumors circulating around her. Sweet storyline with a dash of suspense, Just One Taste hooked me early and easily held my attention to the end. The Kingston Family is a great family saga series and I can't wait to read the next one!

The senator's daughter is constantly a target to be set up and exposed, leaving her unable to trust anyone. When her brother sends her to the islands with his best friend to watch over her she finds happiness and friends like she's never had before as a model.

I loved the home in the Bahama's I just wanted to jump in and be there. Enjoy two people who want nothing more than to escape people in general and enjoy life privately. He's a billionaire, she's a model and daughter to a highly publicized senator.

It's a great story!

More of the Dare family, and off to a tropical island we go. Nikki has gotten into another situation, and her brother calls on his best friend, Asher Dare, to help. As he reluctantly agrees to accompany Nikki to his island home, getting her out of the spotlight.

Nikki is young but has accomplished quite a bit in her twenty one years. Her politically driven parents are prickly at best, and defiantly unsupportive, yet she is number one with her brother. Her story is a tough one, but the future looks good.

Asher is aware of Nikki and her situation and is a little brash on the flight to the island. Does he really know Nikki or just her reputation?

A nice addition to the series, and I look forward to more.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

I really love this series. With each book we get a new couple to fall in love with. But I'll be honest and say that this one, which was fun and a good read, was not my favorite. I'm not sure what was the factor that made this and OK read and great like the rest was, but something was bothering me from the get-go. I don't even mind the age gap, but if I think really hard about it, I think it was the fact that I felt that all of the attraction and falling for each other was superficial. They did open up about their old wounds, how they felt growing up, but I just couldn't believe that they fell madly in love. And maybe that's my problem; they went through so much as kids, so maybe that's why their love was more of a silent type, and I'm used to Carly's characters bursting with love on the pages.

I know that everything I wrote sounds like I didn't like the book and that couldn't be further from the truth. I enjoyed it very much but maybe if I do a re-read everything will fall into place and this too will be at the top of my Carly Phillips book like the rest of the series is.

I loved Nikki & Ashers story! Nikki was so misunderstood and how she was treated by everyone but her brother who was almost like the only person in the world who believed in her and saw how beautiful she was internally, he always protected her so when he makes arrangements for her to get out everyone’s opinions of her she lands with his best friend who learns she’s not who he thought and he wants to show her she has someone else in her corner now

I didn’t read anything about this book until I started it and I just don’t have it in me to care about a 21 year old girl and a 33-year-old guy. Yes I know the age gap isn’t that much but it’s the 21 year old age that I just don’t care reading about.

When Nikki's privacy is invaded, her brother asks best friend Asher to hide Nikki at his island home for a few days while things get sorted out locally. And asks Asher to stay and keep an eye on her. Asher's not thrilled, but anything for a friend. He expects a spoiled princess model. He gets someone very different-someone who can crack right through his grumpy facade to the man beneath.

Nikki and Asher have similar childhood difficulties- they've both grown up learning not to trust all but a select few close people. But while Asher became a grumpy pessimist, Nikki kept her optimistic, friendly, outgoing personality. You'd think that opposites (and a 12 year age gap) wouldn't attract, but Nikki draws Asher out, makes him relax, and shows him that he doesn't have to be the one taking care of everyone all the time. I liked how she reminded him that it was possible to mix work and fun, and relax some of the time. I didn't see the chemistry between them at first, and would have liked more chemistry and more of Asher putting walls up because of the whole best-friend's-little-sister thing in the beginning, because he fell pretty easily, but once they started a relationship I really liked them together. Nikki has had to become more mature and wiser than her years suggest, and she's a great listener, genuinely interested in people and their stories, so she was perfect to draw Asher out of himself.

A good addition to the family saga, but one that can also be read as a stand alone if you are just discovering Carly Phillips and her extended Dare Family. Pretty light, a fast read, but fun and a great match up between Nikki and Asher!

It seems like with so any characters and so many stories in this fictional world things would get stale and predictable. Not so when this crafty scribe is penning the words. I truly thought Asher Dare would never give up his bachelor lifestyle, but it looks like he’s met his match.

Asher's attitude towards model Nikki Bettencourt isn’t the best. She’s his best friend's little sister, and Asher admits he has some bias against models due to a failed relationship with one. When private pictures of Nikki go public, Asher is tasked with spiriting her away to his island home until the frenzy dies down.

There are so many reasons why Asher won’t “go there" with Nikki, but the more time he spends with her he sees her for the truly amazing woman she is. Age difference and best friend notwithstanding, when Fate plays her hand and love is involved, the heart gets what the heart wants.

I love this Dare family to pieces! Each story stands alone with its own HEA, but we get to reacquaint with beloved characters, enjoy a fun, entertaining, heartfelt romance, and have our appetites whet for the next romance to come. What could be better? As a die-hard CP fan, I may be a little biased, but this humorous, heartwarming, steamy romance is just the ticket for your next amazing reading escape!

I swear no one can go wrong with a Carly Phillips story, and I simply will never get enough that's for sure. Nikki is a supermodel along with being the daughter of a Senator & Presidential candidate, and despite the fact that this girl is amazing, it seems like scandal follows her around everywhere. Asher Dare is a very wealthy man who is the CEO of Dirty Dare Spirits so he has it all in life including an island to get away from the rat race when he needs a break. Things take a turn in Asher's life when his closest friend asks him to take Nikki (closet friend's sister) to his island while the latest scandal blows over. Asher doesn't like it at all since he has some preconceived notions about Nikki, but he does agree, and it's the best thing that ever happened to them both. See, they're perfect for each other so the sparks are flying, however, you already know there's that whole bro code thing so things get dicey LOL! I LOVED every minute of this amazing story with so much heart & kicker of sexy, so it's definitely on my reread list and now it's your turn! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Nikki is familiar with the media attention that she faces on a regular basis however nothing could have prepared her for the media frenzy she finds herself in. Her brother is determined to protect her and that includes having her stay with his best friend on a secluded island while he deals with the situation.

Asher is a man who doesn’t allow many people close so when his best friend asks him to protect his sister, he can’t say no. He believes he knows who she is but as they spend time together, he realizes he couldn’t be more wrong, but will he be able to give Nikki what she really wants which is his heart.

Both Nikki and Asher have difficult pasts but while he has chosen to distance himself from everyone she searches for love and acceptance for the person she is and not the person others want her to be.

The romance was swoony and although they had some turmoil to overcome even though they couldn’t be more different they find what has been missing in their lives from each other.

Even though Nikki was raised with money, her emotional life has not been easy. Nikki’s mother is an awful person who only cares about her and her husband’s reputation as he eventually wants to run for president. I was so happy Nikki had her older brother who supported her emotionally, and did all he could to help her. Nikki had been pushed into modeling which caused troubles for her. Something awful happens to Nikki and her brother Devon ask his best friend Asher o take her to his island house to giver her some rest and out of the public eye. I loved how Asher didn’t want to do his friend a favor as he had a bad image of Nikki because of his past. I loved watching Nikki break down Asher’s grumpiness. It was a shock when I learned who had made Nikki’s life so miserable. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I received a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Received an ARC for an honest review.

Oh goodness, this book has it all. Grumpy/sunshine, age-gap, brother's best friend, millionaires, mystery! I was hooked from the first page, as is usually the case with any of Carly's books. Nikki and Asher shouldn't make sense. He thinks she's a spoiled model, but when Nikki needs a place to hide after photos of her were posted online, her brother trusts no one but Asher. After a few days on an island, it's very clear that they're going to get together...it's just a matter of when.

This book broke my heart and put it back together again. It made me giggle and blush and everything in between. Another absolutely excellent Kingston/Dare book and I can't wait for the next story.

Nikki looks like your typical spoiled socialite, but when trouble seems to follow her, some people think she brings it upon herself and then lies to get out of it. At least that's what Asher thinks when he first meets her a few years ago.

Fast forward to now, when once again Nikki finds herself in hot water and needs a way out. Nikki's brother and Asher's good friend asks him for a favor; Take Nikki into hiding to his private island, yes you read that correctly! A private island!

Nikki feels awkward about the whole thing and Asher is also skeptical about it. Once on the island though, Nikki can't help but be attracted to the grumpy billionaire. Asher tries his best to stay away from her and mind his own business but as much as he fights it he always finds himself drawn to her.

With their 12 year age gap being the biggest elephant in the room, will they be able to surpass that and the fact that she is his friends sister?! Read to find out!

I have been a long time fan of Carly Phillips, and I definitely do not see that changing any time soon!

Just One Taste is an age gap and best friend's younger sister romance that brings us Asher Dare and Nikki Bettencourt. Asher has been asked by his best friend to accompany Nikki to his family's property in the Caribbean after some extremely private and scandalous photos are leaked to the press. These two couldn't be more opposite, in age and personality, but they have both been betrayed in the past and have trouble trusting others.

I really liked how Nikki was the one that was younger but still able to break down Asher's walls by proving just how mature and grown up she could be.

This book had plenty of heat, a good focus on family and forgiveness, and a unique story line. It was a very enjoyable read and can definitely be read as a standalone in the series!.

Super sizzling and emotional!

Can you imagine that someone is so jealous of your modeling talent and hates you so much, that they they would spread nude photos of you, for all the world to see. Photos that you were not aware of, taken in YOUR bedroom, while you were asleep?

Well that is what happened to Nikki Bettencourt, daughter of the newest presidential candidate. Unfortunately, her self-absorbed and super selfish parents, not only don't come to their daughter's defense, but blame her like it's her fault.

So her big brother asks his best friend, Asher Dare, to hide her on his private island until the guilty parties can be identified and arrested! Awesome Story!!!!

I wasn’t a fan of every description being designer in the beginning. I got the impression of the characters being wealthy without having to name brand almost every item they owned. It did get better, but it just didn’t fit who the characters were for the rest of the story.
As for Asher and Nikki, I loved that she didn’t give up on him, wearing down his defenses until he couldn’t stop himself.
I was a bit disappointed that I was able to predict a few things that happened that could have been a great curveball, but it also made sense to write it that way.
I’m very intrigued by Zach’s story and I’ll be waiting for it to come out!
Overall I enjoyed this HEA and look forward to reading more from this author.

This series has been really fun so far, and I always love catching up with all the Dare family! Also, this book has my top favorite trope, brother's best friend!!

Asher Dare is the rich and powerful CEO of a highly successful brand of spirits. He's close with his large family, but he hasn't had luck with romance. His best friend from college calls and asks for a favor: for Asher to take his little sister to Asher's island home, to let some paparazzi drama blow over. He reluctantly agrees.

Nikki Bettencourt is the daughter of a Senator, but she's never fit the mold her perfectionist mother made for her. She's a model, but she's feeling burnt out, and isn't sure what's next. When naked photos of her, asleep in her own bed, show up in the tabloids, she's horrified. Her brother Derek calls his friend Asher, to help her get away, and she's grateful.

Asher and Nikki have chemistry from the first moment, and neither of them expected it, or know what to do about it. There's an age gap, so Asher feels an obligation to Nikki, and to her brother, not to take advantage of her while she's in a vulnerable position. Nikki knows what she wants and isn't willing to let Asher push her away. I really enjoyed their dynamic, and how much they just WANTED each other, all the time.

Nikki's parents were an absolute NIGHTMARE, and seeing the exact opposite with Asher's family was really refreshing. I loved how close they all were, and how Nikki's issues with her family, made Asher realize he still had some things from his childhood to move on from, and let go of. It made for really lovely moments with his dad, and with his stepmom.

This was a delightful addition to this series, and the next book was set up well. It will be with Asher's brother, Harrison, the famous actor, and Nikki's friend and neighbor, the journalist, Winter. Can't wait!

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. This review is my personal opinion, voluntarily given.

Another great addition to the Dare Family by Carly Phillip's. Asher is Chloe from Just one Scandal's brother. His friend Derek's sister Nikki was exposed on social media. She goes to Asher's home to get away from the public eye. They met before, but he didn't like her. He learns more about her, and starts to see her in a different light. They start a sexual relationship, and he wants to propose. His brother Zach finds out who hurt Nikki. She packs to go home, but Asher asks her to marry him and stay at his home. She says Yes.

Up next is Harrison and Winter, who happens to be Nikki's best friend in Just One Fling.

Kindle / Apple / Nook / Kobo / Google Play / Amazon Print

When Nikki's privacy is invaded and private photos of her are released, her older, very protective brother asks his best friend, Asher Dare of Dirty Dare Spirits, to take her to his private island in the tropics, and keep her safe (and his hands to himself) until Derek finds out who's behind everything. Asher has only one memory of Nikki, and it's not a positive one, so this is a big favor Derek's asking of him. But what happens when Asher finds that Nikki's not the spoiled model he had thought? That her sunshiney outlook on life, her strong spirit and backbone, are doing wonderful things for the chains around his heart? Will their close proximity make him open to love? Or will he continue to be against love and relationships?

Nikki knows what Asher thinks of her, what the world thinks of her. So she's surprised when Asher starts showing signs that he's seeing her as more than just his best friend's spoiled little sister. But he's also made it clear that he doesn't do relationships, so Nikki knows better than to expect their budding whatever to go beyond their island bubble. She'll just have to keep her heart out of it, lest she fall for an unavailable man.

Brother's best friend is always good for a bit of forbidden deliciousness, and that's why I like the trope so much. Here the forbidden aspect is played just right, with a bit of angst but not too much, two really likable characters, especially Nikki, and the grumpy/sunshine trope to make things even better. The Kingston Family and the Dares make a great combination, can't wait for the next in line to fall in love.

Ever since I read Just One Kiss I've been looking forward to reading Nikki & Asher and I think the wait was totally worth it, Carly Phillips gave me so much more than what I expected from their bond, love story and personal stories and now they are my favorite couple in the series. Also, I loved the supporting characters more than ever, especially Derek, Harrison, and Zach, and I can't wait to learn about their stories.

Nikki is one of the most interesting female characters I've read so far: a young model who apparently has it all, but actually faces a complicated & painful family situation that it broke my heart to read, however, I loved that Derek, his older brother, was always his unconditional support, caretaker, protector and only father figure. Something else I LOVED about Nikki was her personality, her big heart, kindness and her ability to sneak into Asher's life even when he tries to avoid it at all costs.

I have to say that Asher worried me a bit at first, especially after reading what he thought of Nikki in the previous book, but I was very happy to discover his true personality: how kind, cute and tender he can be, how he supports Nikki whenever she needs it, respects her and her decisions and the way his attitude towards his best friend's younger sister changes to as he get to know her. I also loved that little altercation he had with his dad and stepmother because it showed his ability to face his mistakes, fix them, and face his true feelings.

Nikki & Asher are my new favorites because I loved the way Carly showed their attraction from the first time they met, and how even though Asher tries to avoid Nikki by being the grump he usually is, the chemistry between them is ALWAYS there. I really liked reading them trusting each other, supporting each other unconditionally and getting to know each other's true personality throughout their stay on the island, also, I loved EVERYTHING the author did with their love story, so I couldn't have enjoyed this two more.

An enjoyable Dirty Dare romance
4 stars

I’m always up for whatever Carly Phillips is serving - especially if it’s in the shape of one of her Dare clan. Even though this is book 7 of the Kingston Family series, it’s about those Dirty Dares, namely oldest brother Asher. If you’re a fan of Ms Phillips, you’ll know this family and how they connect to previous books. For newer readers, this book still stands alone and you get explanations of connections so you won’t be confused.

It doesn’t take long for Asher and Nikki to get to the tropical island and for our age-gap, brother’s best friend / best friend’s little sister shenanigans to begin.

We first meet Nikki and get to know who she is and what she’s about. She’s 21 but didn’t come across as immature, if maybe, understandably, a little bit lost due to her circumstances and family history. She was a joyous soul who found pleasure in the small things. Unfortunately, this made her appear a little younger - or maybe it only did because the age difference between Asher and Nikki was one of the major sources of conflict between our pair.

Asher is the poster boy for a grumpy alpha billionaire. One that is confronted by someone that intrigues, infuriates and ultimately changes him. He’s definitely a grump but I loved the way that Nikki managed to get her way with Asher - and that he knew exactly what she was doing but just couldn’t help himself. He was a good man and an honest man and I liked the way he conducted himself.

Unsurprisingly - this is a Carly Phillips book after all - the heat between Asher and Nikki is knee-weakeningly hot. Their first encounter still makes me tingly days after reading. Nope - chemistry was definitely not a problem with our pair.

I feel I have to talk about the age gap element of the story and how it left me a little conflicted. Well, it wasn’t the age-gap as such, but more the fact that Nikki was only 21. I wondered, like Asher himself did, whether she needed to see more of the world before she got herself into a long-term relationship. Yes, she was described as being older than her age - and she didn’t come across as immature - so I’m not really sure why I thought about it so much. And I easily accept similar ages and age gap in insta-love stories so I do feel a bit hypocritical. As the story moved back to the US, and our couple became more entwined, I did feel it moved into the background and the story itself took over. But I still thought about it!

The storytelling was delightful and Ms Phillips always tells a story that’s engaging, interesting and engrossing. I love the way she tells a story of this beloved family and all its twists and turns, and makes us fall in love with them as they themselves fall in love. This wasn’t my favourite story of the series but it was still an enjoyable story that I would recommend. 4 stars.

As the seventh book in The Kingston Family Series, Phillips’s Just One Taste is her latest off the charts romance that will leave you swooning and rooting for the characters until the very end.

The last thing twenty-one year old, Nicolete Bettencourt, wanted to wake up to was to be all over the news and not for a good reason. As a model, Nikki is used to getting her pictures taken, but the pictures that have her trending could threaten her dad’s potential presidential run. It’s yet another scandal that seems to follow her every movie, something her mother is not very happy with. Terrified and exposed, Nikki doesn’t know what to do. Her mother will only be angry and disappointed, so she can’t turn to them for help. Luckily her older brother steps in and suggests for her to spend time at his friend Asher’s private island retreat.

Nikki only remembers meeting Asher Dare when she was seventeen and not giving him a good impression of her. So she is surprised when he agrees to let her stay at his house, though neither of them expected for her brother to ask Asher to stay with her as well. It’s the two of them on a tropical island, what could go wrong? Nikki is hiding, away from the world with a very attractive man. Soon the two start to get to know each other and she starts to see that underneath all the hurt that he’s been through before, Asher deserves to be loved as well. But proving to him that they’re meant to be together is going to be tough, especially when their time on the island is coming to an end.

As the CEO of Dirty Dare Spirits, thirty-three year old, Asher Dare, has it all. His business is booming as well as the attention that he is getting from women around him. Yet, no matter how much attention he gets, Asher is always clear to point out that he isn’t looking to be in a relationship. After the environment he grew up in, Asher doesn’t have a good notion on love or being loved. His trust issues are also part of the problem, especially after how his previous relationships ended.

So when he gets a call from Derek asking to let his little sister hide at his island home, Asher agrees. Not expecting to be asked to watch out for her as well. It’s been a while since he’s seen Nikki, but he is all to aware of the scandals that keep following her around. He promises to watch over her, but he has his walls up, Asher is not willing to put his heart on the line again. Yet, after getting to know Nikki, seeing the kind person her parents refuse to see. Asher knows that he is doomed, there is not a single thing he isn’t willing to do for her. But there are other problems that could stop them from finding out if they are meant to be together.

I absolutely loved reading Just One Taste, Phillips did a great job making the characters lovable and relatable. Their sizzling chemistry is off the charts from the very beginning, though their age difference is just one of the problems that they need to face, they are able to lean on each other throughout the book. We get cameos from characters from previous books as well. They are able to help each other as a family and the ending was perfect for them. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and I would highly recommend checking out this book too! :)

4.25 stars—JUST ONE TASTE is the seventh instalment in Carly Phillips contemporary adult KINGSTON FAMILY erotic, romance series-a series interconnected with the author’s Dirty Dare /Dare Nation series. This is twenty-one year old model Nicolette ‘Nikki’ Bettencourt, and thirty three year old, owner of Dirty Dare Spirits Asher Dare’s story line. JUST ONE TASTE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Asher and Nicolette) JUST ONE TASTE follows the age-gap romance between twenty-one year old model Nicolette Bettencourt, and thirty three year old, owner of Dirty Dare Spirits Asher Dare. A media scandal has forced Nicolette Bettencourt into hiding. A series of nude images focusing on our story line heroine have been published, and her parents run for the White House is now in question. With the help of her older and over protective brother Derek, and his best friend, CEO of Dirty Dare Spirits Asher Dare, Nicolette finds herself on a private island, under the care of the man with whom she will fall in love. As Asher’s brothers begins a deep dive into what happened and why, Asher finds himself falling for a woman of whom he has been told to stay clear. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Asher and Nicolette, and the potential fall-out as Nicolette prepares to move on by herself.

Asher Dare doesn’t do relationships, and finds himself both put out and intrigued by his island companion. In an effort to keep things temporary, Asher proposes time together but to go their separate ways upon their return home. Nikki Bettencourt has always found herself second or third ‘banana’ behind her parents’ aspirations, a trophy to be looked at and admired, but a black mark on their fight towards political control. After another disappointing and embarrassing media scandal, Nicolette finds herself pushed further to the back realizing that to move forward means to move forward alone.

The relationship between Asher and Nicolette begins as forced proximity but quickly turns into something more. Asher has been warned not to cross the line with his best friend’s younger sister, and Nicolette wants the support and comfort she never got at home. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is are large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters: Asher’s parents Serenity and Michael Dare; his brothers Harrison and Zach; as well as the introduction of Nikki’s brother Derek, and their parents Senator Corbin and Collette Bettencourt; island housekeeper Maggie and her son Corey; and Nikki’s friend Winter Capwell. Winter and Harrison’s story line is next.

JUST ONE TASTE is a story of betrayal and jealousy, family and friendships, love and acceptance. The premise is emotional and entertaining; the romance is provocative and steamy; the character are struggling but determined and dynamic.
